MY 64 Notchback

My 64 Notchback

This is my 1964 VW 1500S Notchback. The car is in a pretty good shape, only with minor repairs to be done. The car has been in her first owners property for her first thirty years.
The type 3 sedan and Variant entered production in September 1961, and the cars where initially offered with a 45 bhp version of the new 1493 cc engine. Although in August 1963, a deluxe version, the 1500 S, was introduced, featuring a higher compression ratio(8.5:1) twin solex 32 PDSIT carburetors, which saw the power output boosted to 54 bhp. The standard model stayed with a single carburetor and became the 1500N.

The 1965 model year saw the introduction of a third body style to the Type 3 range, with the introduction of the VW 1600 TL- a "fastback" version of the sedan model, using a new 1584cc version of the "pancake" engine, which then became standard across the Type 3 rang.
In conjunction with the larger engine, the 1966 model year saw the Type 3 cars fitted with front disk brakes. However, over half of the Type 3 cars sold were Variants, underlining the fact that the car was bought mostly for its practicality, and that the aim of luring buyers upmarket from the Beetle had not really succeeded. The model received a slight facelift in 1969, but production ended in 1973.
